Get A Coach

Player, coach and commentator Jason Dibelius discusses with BBV Founder Wendy Jones how even the best players on the beach have a coach and how raw talent can only take you so far.

Have you ever felt like you don’t belong? That sense of being an imposter or unwelcome in a community can be crippling and hold us back from reaching our maximum potential. Hang out with Jason long enough, absorb his mindset, and you will forget about feeling this way. This conversation reminds us what can be accomplished if we have the confidence to believe that we belong and that there is no failure, just countless chances to write different stories and learn in our lives. Jason talks about what it was like to play in an AVP Qualifier at at 47, coach a AVP main draw team, and coach a qualifier team into the Main Draw at the Hermosa Beach Open. His fire for volleyball, whether playing, coaching, commentating or just talking about it like the two of us do on all the time is infectious. The wisdom that he drops at the end of this short conversation is worth sticking around for. Volleyball, as all sports can be, whether as an escape, a profession, a community, or a path to college is all about conquering your demons from the neck up. If you need any help with that…I recommend chatting with Jason Dibelius.
