Quote: Nothing builds trust better than equal measures of consistency and grace. Humans have both the greatest capacity to learn and to mess things up.
No one ever said starting over was easy. It’s why moving or starting a new job is scary. It’s 2why we don’t like change and prefer to stay comfortable in patterns we already know. It’s even why people stay in less than healthy relationships. When my marriage ended a little over three years ago, I had to build trust in myself again. This is the simple recipe for how I started and built it:
1. Do what you say you’ll do
2. Be who you know you are
3. Forgive yourself when you don’t and try again.
I have a tendency to be hard on myself, before I realized it, it used to just shut me down and create massive overwhelm. But finding self love requires digging deep and being honest with self evaluation, acknowledging where we struggle and finding the small and steady steps to fix it, offering yourself constructive criticism and then backing it up with plenty of grace.
