“Strength is defined not by just how much we can hold, but also what we decide to carry. ”
Growth is a messy process. It comes with nagging self doubt...but a spirit that learns to beat the inner critic over and over again. It comes with the ability to notice without attachment, 2and let go of expectations of perfection that were never real in the first place. It is rooted in “beginners mind” because, once we have approached growth and start to answer the call, each day we realize that we know a little less than we thought we did and yet somehow that realization doesn’t make us less confident, just more hungry. Real progress keeps us humble and eager to learn. The joy is that this path entices and energizes us with each step if we learn to turn fear into curiosity and let it motivate us to push down our most abundant path. Ironically, growth is not rooted in just the accumulation of knowledge, but in letting go of what isn’t serving us on our path. When we learn to let go of things that we used to cling to, it feels strange to us and others, but in doing this, clarity of purpose is born. We can’t achieve our potential if we are distracted. Learning to differentiate between opportunity and distraction is an essential skill. I’ve learned it’s not about just how much I do in a day, but what I complete with intention. It’s possible to show the greatest strength not by barreling through but instead, simply setting things down.
Daily Action: For simplicity's sake, write down 5 goals. They can be professional, relational and do not all need to be monetarial driven, in fact, I hope they are not. Then look at your calendar. What do you need to set aside to be able to give time to the goals you wrote? How can you execute on the task of saying no to free up the time and energy for the goals you wrote down.
Daily Reframe: Saying no with intention can be more powerful to our growth than saying yes.
With Optimism,
